APPOINTMENTS
GAT belongs to a number of active coalitions and Networks and on its platform, the Executive Director GAT has been recognized and appointed as follows:

  • Chairperson of the Steering Committee “Global Crisis Preventive Mechanism” (GCPM) with headquarters at Swiss Peace, Bern, Switzerland.
  • Chairperson of the Network on Police Reforms in Nigeria (NOPRIN), Lagos State
  • Member National Steering Committee of the Community Policing Project, Abuja, Nigeria
  • Chairperson Board of Trustees of Diamond Development Initiatives (DDI), Kano State
  • Regional Board member West Africa Network for peace building (WANEP), in charge of Training and Capacity Building, Accra- Ghana
  • National Board member West Africa Network for peace building (WANEP) Nigeria, Lagos State

AWARDS

  • Dr. Lydia Umar received recognition and an Award of Excellence from her alma mater Ahmadu Bello University (ABU).

TRIBUTE TO LATE MRS ELIZABETH NKECHI BONET
Late Mrs. Elizabeth Nkechi Bonet, served as the chairperson of the board Directors of GAT from January 2002 till she passed on to glory on the 12th of June 2007. She was born on the 30th May 1942 in Minna. She attended Queen of Apostles College now Queen Amina College after her primary education, proceeding to Teachers Training College and the Advanced Teachers Program at the College in Zaria where she earned her Nigerian Certificate in Education (N.C.E)

Immediately after her graduation, she proceeded to teach at her Alma Mata where she spent a number of years before she moved to Our Lady’s Teachers College. She later moved to Capital School Kaduna as a teacher, also ascending to the position of Acting Principal. Years later she was appointed the first Chairperson of Kaduna State Primary Education Board.

Mrs. Bonet was an inspiration in spite of the debilitating illness she endured for so many years; she treated any issue regarding GAT with utmost candor contributing with wise counsel. Kindness and generosity were virtues she espoused. Service to humanity and being a change agent in her community was what she strove to be daily.

She was an epitome of grace, a reservoir of vistas of Knowledge with a WILL and a PASSION for impacting her community positively. She believed and upheld the vision of GAT; protecting and promoting Gender Equity and peace by championing activities that empowered women and supporting women organizations as best as she could. We will miss you; continue to rest with the Lord until we meet to part no more.
