Gender Awareness Trust (GAT), formerly known as Gender Action Team was established in Kaduna State of Nigeria 2000 as an independent, not-for-profit, research, training, advocacy and capacity building organization.

The purpose was to promote peace and build the capacities of women and youth to fully and effectively participate in decision making processes that affect them and their communities.
